Who we are

At Gentoo, we are proud of our rich history and legacy. You might remember us by our former name, GiG Media, the affiliate media division of GiG (Gaming Innovation Group). However, our story began way back in 2007 when a company named Rebel Penguin was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark.

After being bought by GiG’s affiliate division, then named Innovation Labs, we were off on a journey as the Malta-based company GiG Media, a relationship that lasted for nearly a decade.

In spring 2024, with our business stronger than ever, it was time for us to part ways with Gaming Innovation Group, and transform into Gentoo Media, enabling us to fully devote our expertise and focus on what we do best – creating meaningful relationships based on mutual value and respect for our partners and our users, the players.

What we’re called

Gentoo, originates from the name of the world’s fastest, most resilient and loyal penguin species, the Antarctic “Gentoo”. The Gentoo penguin knows that the best way to prosper in harsh conditions is by coming together as a unit, to survive and thrive.

Generation two, Gentoo symbolises the future and our Rebel Penguin and GiG Media legacy, as we enter the second generation, our next era, stronger and more elevated than ever.
